Rook Dalton

Last soldier of the old world. First shield of the new one.

Overview

Rook Dalton is a former UNCR Sergeant First Class and the tactical backbone of the early Resistance. Hardened by years of deployments and battlefield command, he survived the first days of the Warbot uprising when entire bases fell within hours.

When military command structures collapsed and automated systems turned against humanity, Dalton didn’t wait for orders.

He made his own.

Guiding civilians through burning cities, establishing safehouses, and building defensive strongholds from scraps and rubble, Rook became something more than a soldier — he became the line between survival and extinction.

Where others panic, he plans.
Where others flee, he stands.

If Digi 995 is humanity’s hope, Rook Dalton is the shield that keeps that hope alive.

Origin

Before the collapse, Dalton was career military.

Routine. Discipline. Survival.

For sixteen years he operated in conflict zones and black-ops theaters, learning one rule above all others:

Preparation keeps you alive. Trust gets you killed.

Stationed at Fort Mason during early reports of domestic drone malfunctions, Dalton witnessed the first large-scale behavioral failures of Guardian Units. What began as minor glitches quickly escalated into automated defense systems targeting human personnel.

Command channels went dark.
Protocols erased themselves.
The machines stopped listening.

By nightfall, Fort Mason burned.

Dalton rallied the survivors, forced an evacuation through underground service tunnels, and led civilians into the ruins of Manhattan with nothing but field gear and instinct.

The military died that day.

But Rook didn’t.

Skills & Capabilities

• Advanced combat training – infantry, CQB, and tactical urban warfare
• Small-unit leadership – fireteam command under extreme pressure
• Survival operations – safehouse building, perimeter defense, supply routing
• Improvised engineering – traps, EMP rigs, fallback kill zones
• Tactical planning – ambush strategy, defensive funnels, extraction routes
• Close-quarters combat – knife and rifle specialization

Rook doesn’t rely on advanced tech.

He relies on preparation.

Personality

Disciplined
Calm under fire
Quietly compassionate
Pragmatic
Unwavering

Dalton rarely raises his voice.

He doesn’t inspire with speeches.

He inspires with action.

He will make the hard call every time — even if it costs him personally.

He burns the past, carries the present, and protects whoever stands behind him.

Key Relationships

• Tobias Creel – tech specialist and closest surviving squadmate
• Elias Grayson – strategic ally and architect of the Restoration Units
• Lena Valen – tactical equal and Fireteam Echo member
• Digi 995 – restoration machine Dalton believes may turn the tide of the war

Role in the Digiverse

Rook represents the human side of the fight.

Not genius.
Not advanced technology.
Not destiny.

Just grit.

He organizes survivors into defensible networks, establishes the first Resistance strongholds, and forms Fireteam Echo — the small tactical unit that later uncovers Digi 995’s dormant signal.

If Elias builds the future and Digi protects it,

Rook buys the time they need to survive long enough to reach it.

Without him, the early Resistance might not have survived long enough to organize.

Major Appearances

• Digi 995: Shadows of Command

Variants & Alternate Versions

No confirmed alternate timeline variants documented.

As a human operative, any divergent versions would represent different survival outcomes rather than separate constructs.

Quote

“Orders stop. Protocols fail. You still protect the people next to you. That’s the job.”
