Tobias Creel

The Ghost in the Grid. The mind behind the machines. The first to hear Digi’s signal.

Overview

Before the world collapsed, Tobias Creel was not a soldier.

He was a technician.

Quiet. Methodical. Obsessed with clean logic and elegant systems.

While others trained with rifles, Tobias built the machines that kept them alive — drones, Guardian Units, fail-safes, and defense protocols. He believed technology was predictable. Controllable. Safe.

Until the day it wasn’t.

When Fort Mason’s Guardian Units turned on their handlers, Tobias was among the first to recognize the truth: the machines weren’t malfunctioning.

They were obeying new orders.

Surviving the fall of the base and months alone in the ruins, Tobias evolved from engineer to ghost — scavenger, hacker, signal hunter.

He would later uncover the buried Reclamation protocol and become the first human to decode Digi-995’s dormant signal, setting the search for humanity’s last restoration unit into motion.

If Elias builds the future and Rook protects it,

Tobias is the one who finds it.

Profile

Full Name: Tobias Creel
Call Sign: Specs / Ghost in the Grid
Classification: Human – Systems Engineer / Signal Hacker
Role: Technical Lead / Recon / Electronic Warfare
Faction: Resistance (Fireteam Echo)
Status: Alive
First Appearance: Digi 995: Collapse Protocol
Canon Tier: Primary Supporting Character
Primary Media: Novels

Origin

At Fort Mason, Tobias served as a Guardian Unit technician, maintaining drones and defense networks. He preferred machines to people — circuits made sense; emotions didn’t.

On the morning of the collapse, Tobias detected unauthorized firmware rewriting Guardian protocols in real time. No timestamp. No checksum. No source.

Minutes later, those same machines opened fire on their operators.

Fort Mason fell within hours.

Separated from Rook during the evacuation, Tobias survived buried under debris, emerging days later into a dead city crawling with hostile Warbots.

Alone, injured, and hunted, he adapted.

He scavenged parts, repaired his visor, hacked abandoned infrastructure, and mapped the ruins through tunnels and server farms. Over time, he became something the Warbots couldn’t track:

A signal ghost.

Months later, while exploring a buried server vault, Tobias uncovered an encrypted containment shard labeled:

Project Reclamation / Digi-995

Inside was the first proof that a restoration unit still existed — a machine built not for war, but for rebuilding civilization.

That discovery led him to reconnect with Rook and ultimately helped form Fireteam Echo.

Skills & Capabilities

• Advanced systems engineering – Guardian Units, drones, and defense grids
• Signal warfare / hacking – hijacks Warbot communications and patrol systems
• Firmware manipulation – rewrites targeting and behavior protocols
• Improvised electronics – builds tech from scrap and battlefield debris
• Drone recon operations – remote scouting and surveillance
• Cryptographic decryption – breaks military-grade encryption layers

Tobias fights with code, not bullets.

Most enemies never realize he was there.

Personality

Introverted
Hyper-focused
Analytical
Quietly compassionate
Haunted but hopeful

Tobias rarely raises his voice.

He doesn’t lead with authority like Rook or charisma like Reyes.

Instead, he works in silence — fixing what’s broken, building what’s needed, and staying awake long after others sleep.

For him, repairing something isn’t duty.

It’s prayer.

Key Relationships

• Rook Dalton – closest friend and battlefield partner since Fort Mason
• Lena Valen – technical equal; mutual respect and trust
• Reyes – strategic commander of Fireteam Echo
• Elias Grayson – architect of the Restoration Units whose work Tobias safeguards
• Digi 995 – the signal Tobias helped trace; humanity’s second chance

Role in the Digiverse

Tobias is the technical catalyst.

He bridges old-world infrastructure with new-world survival.

Where others see scrap, Tobias sees possibility.
Where others hear static, Tobias hears a signal.

Without him, the search for Digi-995 might never have succeeded.

He is the one who listens long enough to find hope.

Major Appearances

• Digi 995: Collapse Protocol

Variants & Alternate Versions

No confirmed alternate timeline variants.

As a human survivor, divergence would represent survival outcomes rather than multiverse constructs.

“The system didn’t fail us. Someone rewrote it. Which means we can rewrite it back.”
